A (Luxurious) Reward for Glamping
So our entrance into the lap of luxury was lessened thanks to our luxurious afternoon/night in Wakefield, but it was still lovely to arrive at the Chateau. The room was lovely, but not quite as nice as our Wakefield retreat. The rooms are notoriously small in these old hotels, and while our room was bigger than the smallest, it wasn't as spacious as the Belle de Nuit Inn. That being said, Fairmont really knows how to turn up the service. We were greeted with valet and concierge service, and it got better from there.
After a quick change in the room we headed out for a walk and dinner. After 10/15 mins on the famous promenade we found a creperie and ate a quick bite overlooking the river. Then we headed for old town. Gord's certainly Grandma's offspring as he was drawn to the Christmas store, and it was all we could do to get him out with nothing purchased. We wandered around for a little less than an hour before the skies opened up and we made a hasty return to our castle atop the hill.
Gord admiring his impressive digs with his queen.
After digesting we decided to take a dip in the pool! After getting changed and a short ride up the elevator we were able to enjoy the piscine in the sky! Gord wasn't allowed in the hot tub so he decided to opt for a complimentary life jacket and float around. He did fairly well, and enjoyed the bobbing up and down. His sister is a water bug and splashed and smiled nonstop. Clad in just her swim diaper she quickly stole the hearts of all present, but remained oblivious to the attention, more interested in the splashing. After a good hour of splashing and bobbing we had a quick family shower-off on the deck and headed back to the room. As we thanked the lifeguard he noted Gord's age and general excitement and asked if he had heard of the Chateau's Treasure Hunt!
Talk about a game changer. Gord can get excited. He can get enthusiastic about new and different things. This was something different altogether. The deal is you get a map and a starting location. There are 7 secret keys and letters hidden around the hotel. The task involves going from key to key mad letter to letter in order to spell out a secret word - spoiler alert - chateau. At the end there was he promise of a prize! So T went to bed with Hannah while I chased a pyjama'd Gord around the Chateau Frontenac in search of keys and letters. It took us about half an hour to find all the keys and spell out a letter. The last clue, "where do you wear flip flops" of course took is back to the pool and the very same life guard who started this whole adventure was waiting with a firm high five and Gord's prize, a stuffy dog that was quickly ushered into G's heart and dubbed Max. Out night was through, and Girdon was as happy as a clam. We slept well and were ready for our next step of our journey tomorrow. Like I said, the Chateau has small rooms and overpriced rates, but their service is second to none. Well done Fairmont.
The lovely piscine in the sky that started our night of adventure and lead us to our newest friend, Max!
